Wasgij 20th Anniversary
It’s 20 years since Jumbo launched the first Wasgij and they are celebrating this momentous milestone with the relaunch of the first three Wasgij’s under the Retro banner.
These Special Edition Anniversary jigsaws are essential additions to your Wasgij collection. The three 1,000 piece puzzles are the very first Wasgij Original 1: Sunday Drivers!, Destiny 1: The Best Days of our Lives! and the Mystery 1: The Wasgij Express!
What is a Wasgij?
For the uninitiated, here are the Wasgij basics. Wasgij is jigsaw spelt backwards and is pronounced “Woz-gidge”. The Wasgij concept revolutionised the jigsaw industry – they were the first where the image you completed was not the one on the box. They give an extra fun challenge to jigsaw puzzling and, consequently, these fun cartoon images have become firm favourites with jigsaw enthusiasts all over the world.
There are six concepts in the Wasgij range, following the common theme that the jigsaw inside is different from the image on the box.
Original – you need to put yourself in the position of a particular character in the picture. Imagine what they are looking at – that is the image you must piece together.
Destiny – the ‘Time Travelling’ concept where you must use your imagination to piece together what you think the scene and characters shown on the box will look like in the modern day.
Mystery – with this one you have to use your imagination and piece together what will happen within the next few minutes to the characters shown in the box image.
Christmas – a festive version of the Original concept.
Imagine…? – piece together what you think the scene and the characters shown on the box will look like if imagination turned into reality.
Back to…? – the most recent concept to join the Wasgij range and a reverse version of Destiny. Piece together what the scene would have looked like in years gone by.
Jumbo reckon they have sold over 3 million Wasgij jigsaws – laid end to end they would stretch around the world at least twice!
Who creates these masterpieces?
Graham Thompson is the original Wasgij artist who has been creating these hilarious images for 20 years. He is responsible for over 50 Wasgij puzzles (there are over 90 in total)! Four other artist have since joined to help Graham out – James Alexander, Bill Houston, Neil Easton and Calvin Innes.
Final interesting Wasgij fact!
The famous Granny figure has appeared in more Wasgij’s than any other character. She’s appeared 23 times!
||Is it the lady driver everyone is shocked at, or something else worrying the villagers? Try to imagine you’re the horse to discover why everyone is so surprised.
||Reminisce about your school days, with mischievous classmates, young romances and grumpy teachers. Imagine how the school canteen might look today and how much the pupils would have grown up.
||Two Wasgij secret agents all tied up and armed with only a whistle, but how can they get out of this tricky situation? Can you work out how the secret agents can escape the oncoming train?
